Linville Day Trip (Self-Guided)

(Please Note: This day trip is designed for Thursday through Saturday when all businesses are open.)

Linville Caverns - Quick day trip from Three Peaks RV Resort and Campground in Western NC mountains

1. Linville Caverns

Three Peaks to Linville Caverns | 19.4 miles | Approx. 30 minutes
  • Open Thursday through Monday 9am – 5pm
  • Closed Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Guided tours leave every 10 minutes and are approximately 40 minutes long
  • Tickets are bought on-site and are first come, first served
  • Admission is $13.00 per adult, $12.00 per senior age 62+, $11.00 per child age 5-12, & children age 4 years & under are free

2. Famous Louise’s Rockhouse Restaurant

Linville Caverns to Louise’s Rockhouse Restaurant | 3.4 miles | Approx. 6 minutes
  • Open Wed. through Sat. 7am – 7pm
  • By walking across the dining room, you visit three of the state’s counties. When you’re done eating at the Rock House, it’s only a few steps to the cash register – in Avery County – and back to your car – in McDowell. Unless you park on the right side of the building, then you’re in Burke.
  • Building is on the National Register of Historical Places

3. Linville Falls

Louise’s Rockhouse to Linville Falls | 3.3 miles | Approx. 7 minutes
  • Visitor Center Hours: Late April – Late October 10am – 5pm and hiking trails are open dawn until dusk, year-round
  • Check for Blue Ridge Parkway closures at www.nps.gov/maps/blri/road-closures.
  • You can hike to five viewpoints via two trails leaving from the Visitors Center.
  • Linville Gorge is nicknamed “The Grand Canyon of the East”.

4. Linville Falls Winery

Linville Falls to Linville Falls Winery | 3.2 miles | Approx. 6 minutes
  • Open daily 12pm-5pm
  • Family owned and operated

  • Wine can be ordered at the main bar area by the glass, by the bottle, or as a wine flight.
  • The winery doubles as a choose-and-cut Christmas tree farm during the holiday season.
